Alstom HP Coal Pulverizers
The Alstom HP Coal Pulverizer is the culmination of a near century long history of technological innovation and advancement begun in 1918 by Alstom’s predecessor Combustion Engineering. Since the first use of pulverized coal firing in an electric generating central station in 1920 more than 6000 Alstom pulverizers have seen service worldwide with single machine capacities ranging from 3500 pounds of coal per hour up to 100 tons per hour currently and up to twice that future designs.
It is projected that 35 years in the future the world will be consuming about 28 million megawatt-hours of electricity, at least 40% ofthat energy will be produced by coal at a rate of six million tons per hour.As a pioneer in pulverized coal firing, Alstom Power has positioned itself well to meet the challenge of supplying the world's energy needs reliably and efficiently at the lowest cost to our customers.
HP Coal Pulverizer Evolution
Pulverized coal was first used in the cement industry in 1895 to fire kilns. In 1918 Combustion Engineering adapted railroad steam locomotive equipment to fire stationary boilers using it two years later at Wisconsin Electric’s Oneida Street and Lakeside power plants. These pioneering installations were followed by two decades of extensive technical and developmental expansion leading to today’s industry acceptance of pulverized coal as the standard for boiler fuel. To date, more than 5500 Alstom pulverizers have been installed worldwide.
Alstom’s family of pulverizers began with the commercial introduction of the CE RB Bowl Mill in 1933.Since then Alstom Power has anticipated rapidly expanding industry needs and trends with a complete line of pulverizer types and sizes culminating in today’s advanced design HP Pulverizer.
