Patented Air-Cooled Burners

On an in-line burner, the natural gas inlet pipe and manifold are located in the oncoming process gas stream.  This preheats the natural gas, which makes the burner more efficient and is generally desirable.

However, in a thermal oxidizer, the burner is located directly downstream on the heat exchanger.  In many cases, this is too much gas preheat and the natural gas can begin to spontaneously combust inside the manifold.  This occurrence will damage beyond repair a burner in short order.

The Air Preheater Company has a patented design modification to these types of burners.  The inlet gas manifold is enclosed by an air-cooling jacket that prevents early combustion and the catastrophic gas-cracking that would destroy other burner designs.
